Her election not only reflects her accomplishments over the past six years as a Town Councillor but also emphasises the importance of representation and the value of diverse voices in shaping the future of Thetford.

In a statement, Mayor-Elect, Carla Barreto said, “I am truly honoured to have been elected as the new Mayor of Thetford, and I am excited to serve this wonderful community. Thetford is a town full of history, diversity, and potential, and I am committed to working hard to support and uplift our residents.

One of the things that makes Thetford so special is its diverse community. We are a town made up of people from many different backgrounds, and I see this as one of our greatest strengths. Each of us brings something unique—different skills, cultures, and perspectives—that add richness and colour to our town. By embracing this diversity, we can build a more inclusive and vibrant Thetford.

During my time as Mayor, I want to focus on strengthening community engagement, supporting local businesses, and enhancing our town’s green spaces and public services. My goal is to create a more connected and welcoming town where everyone feels heard and valued.

I also believe that communication is the foundation of a successful town. That’s why I encourage all residents to share their concerns, ideas, and vision for Thetford. Your voices matter, and by working together, we can make a real difference.

I am passionate about supporting all local charities and community groups that work tirelessly to help others. This year, I will be fundraising for three fantastic local organisations:

· Citizens Advice Thetford Branch, which provides essential guidance and support to those in need.

· Meet and Eat Community Café in Pine Close, a welcoming space that brings people together over food and conversation.

· The Benjamin Foundation “Meet Up” St. Johns Branch, which offers vital support for young people in our community.

I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming months and working alongside you to create positive change. Let’s build a town we can all be proud of!”
