The Guildhall & Carnegie Room Complex
The Guildhall
The present building was erected in 1902 but a plaque inside says
it stands on the site of an earlier hall built in 1337 and it is thought that another preceded that. The mayor and burgesses gained its use from
the Guild of St Mary in the reign of Henry VIII. A Judge of Assize sat there in the last century, Courts of Quarter Sessions until after the last
war and until more recent years it was a Magistrates Court. The Guildhall is situated on the Market Place in Thetford and therefore is an ideal
location for sales and market research.
Within The Guildhall are three rooms available for hire, these being The Large Court, Small Court and Council Chamber. Full kitchen facilities are
also available and a licensed bar can be arranged.
